The rounded architectural construction of Casa Dos Milagres (House of Wonders) is bordering the Cape Agulhas National Park and offers timeless views on the prestigious “Fynbos” vegetation and amalgation of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans...
|
When 15th century Portuguese seafarers
rounded this most Southerly tip of the African continent, they stood in
amazement as the needle of their compass showed no deviation between true North
and magnetic North.
This magical event, coupled with the sharp, saw edged
rock formations of the coast inspired to name the tip ”Cabo das Agulhas” or the “Cape of Needles”.
Casa Dos Milagres (House of Wonders) was build along the border of the Cape Agulhas National Park.
Its location offers timeless, breathtaking views on the prestigious "Fynbos" vegetation (Cape Floral Kingdom) and is the distinct meeting place of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. |

It’s unique round shape bounces off the prevailing
South Eastern Winds in summer and North Western Winds in winter and provides
the perfect shelter for an exclusive, unforgettable stay.
The proximity of the oceans guarantees a moderate
climate with temperatures ranging between 12 and 28C according to the season.
The architecture of the house, inspired by Mario Botha, was adapted by its owners. They were using the abundant lime in the area to create original marmorinos on the walls. The curves of the building are repeated in acid stained floors and lime walls. |

Region:
The southernmost region of Africa is part of the Overberg and stretches from Gansbaai (unpretentious working fishing village and world capital of the white shark) in the West , to the mouth of the Breede River (Malgas) in the East.
It includes the Hoop Nature and Marine Reserve, one of the best land based whale-watching sites in the world. The area has a Mediterranean climate with warm dry summers and cool wet winters. The average day in summer(Christmas) has 14 hours of sunshine.
L'Agulhas
The most important and ultimate destination for all those who are headed for one of the most significant geographical points on the continent of Africa.
Ocean currents between Agulhas and Cape Point are constantly moving an mingling, however, the official meeting place of the Indian and the Atlantic Oceans, according to the International Hydrographical Organisation, is Cape Agulhas.
This demarcation is cast in stone.
A wild and treacherous coastline known as the Graveyard of Ships only adds to the dramatic and remote beauty of the area..Pearly-like winter days, between the wild storms that lash this Cape, are gentle, peaceful and windless.A valuable historic and cultural legacy has been left to posterity by the Khoikhoi beach nomads , who, for many centuries, lived along the Cape Agulhas coastline. The well preserved shell middens and fish-traps are of interest to many a historian and archaeologist.
Struisbaai
This town is the most popular coastal holiday mecca in the Southern Overberg Region.
An important attraction in the town is the group of historic “fisherman cottages” and the minuscule thatched church which are now all national heritage sites.
The longest , uninterrupted white beach in the Southern Hemisphere, can be walked off with safe swimming for all.
The quaint, bustling fishing harbor attracts photographers and artists alike.
It is indeed a pleasure to see the fishing boats coming in laden with a catch destined for community supper tables and the restaurants of the area
Arniston/Waenhuiskrans/Kassiesbaai
The three names apply to the many-faceted jewel of coastal town.
The name Arniston commemorates an 1815 shipwreck; the Waenhuiskrans(wagon-house cliff) is so named after a massive limestone cave close by; and historic Kassiesbaai, a national heritage site, is one of the last remaining unspoiled fishing villages in the country .Locals mingle and interact with foreigh visitors and the host of activities on offer include angling, swimming, hiking, whalewatching and seeing the loaded fishing boats come in to Arniston Bay.
Bredasdorp
The economic capital of the Cape Agulhas Region, established by Michiel Van Breda in 1838.This bustling vibrant town with a population of about 22,000, can offer the visitor a variety of business facilities and service providers.
As the centre of the Region’s wheat and wool producing area, Bredasdorp serves largely the local agricultural community.
Elim
A quaint historic Strandveld town of many national heritage sites.
Established in 1824 by German missionaries, the town community activities centre around the beautiful thatched Moravian Mission Church.
Spectacular and largely endemic fynbos surrounds this town and can be appreciated to its fullest in the nearby Geelkop Nature Reserve.
Over the centuries Elim has produced many talented thatchers, and this skill is traditionally passed down from generation to generation.
Napier
This charming village in the midst of rolling wheat fields, has a community alive with innovative ideas and activities: street markets, various festivals, and music and cultural evenings, are only some of the exciting events that take place throughout the year.
Residents, comprising largely artists, writers, actors, etc., have carefully restored many of the original nineteenth-century buildings, and, together with service providers of the town seem intent on retaining the old-world charm of this village.
